"My daughter and I first visited S&S Ranch eight years ago. We returned the next year. Now, here I am on my own and loving it! The bunk house is immaculate and very comfortable. The huge attached bathroom has two sinks, bathtub, shower and enough storage space for make up and toiletries for all the girls! Miss Leigh's homemade food is outstanding. I'm been trying to convince her to have jars of her marinara sauce available to buy. Miss Leigh knows the personalities of each of her horses so once she got to know each camper, their riding level and ability she went on to match us to the perfect horse. That horse became "ours" for the duration of the week. Cleaning the horse and tacking up for a ride, was half the fun. I really got to know my horse and he got to know me. That alone was amazing. After a day of horses, sunshine, fresh air and chores, a dip in the pool watching the sunset was just what the doctor ordered! I highly recommend a visit to The Sugar and Spice Ranch. I've been and am going back again in just a few weeks and than going to Wyoming this years with them as well. Mrs Leigh and her Girls are so awesome. Their Ranch is well kept and they have a POOL. The Bunk house has bunk beds and makes you feel like a kid again at summer camp. The kids write little notes all over them so they kinda take on a life all their own,and the bathroom is HUGE with a deep sunk in tub for those sore butts. LOL. They serve a large veritiy of foods so theres something for everyone,even your picky eaters.There's so much one on one you really feel at home. I will keep going back until I can no longer ride. The payment plans make it supper easy to aford it year after year. I can't wait get back in the saddle and spend time at the ranch. If you have ever been on the fence about going, GO! You will have the time of your life."

"My daughter and I have stayed at The S & S in Texas 2 times and are returning again this summer. Miss Leigh is an amazing host and always extremely gracious. Her patience with younger children is never ending and she knows her stuff…. The accommodations although rustic are quite appropriate for the camp environment and actually have more niceties than most including a Jacuzzi tub, refrigerator, microwave and many other things in the bunkhouse. The knowledge about horses and Miss Leigh's way with her horses is nothing short of mesmerizing. She is able to read them and her guests and picks the perfect horse for each guest and it never fails to work. The lessons and the games that we played in the arena taught us much about our horses and ourselves. My daughter is a little more competitive than I thought. The games are designed to teach you how to ride while having fun. Anyone that is comes to the ranch is allowed to ride at their own level. We happened to go on a trail ride and it was fantastic. However, most riding is done in the arena as the horses are not "Dude Horses" as Miss Leigh states"

"I'm not much of a horse person, but my wife and daughter have been to Sugar and Spice several times and absolute love it. So, they took me over Labor Day weekend and now I'm a fan too. It's a rustic experience to be sure, but comfortable and homey. The owner Leigh and her daughters really made me feel like family and, despite my lack of riding experience I felt very at ease with my horse Willow. The food was excellent as well. If you want a real working ranch experience with great folks, this is the place to go."

"I took my 10 year old daughter and 7 year old son to Sugar & Spice Ranch. When we arrived at the ranch I was a little nervous wondering if there was enough for us to do. But keep in mind. we had already been in San Antonio for 8 days, in 5 star hotels, doing all the "tourist' stuff. After about 5 minutes at the ranch and meeting Leigh (the owner), I took a deep breath and realized this was going to be a very special part of our trip. No distractions, no electronics... just uninterrupted time with my kids. If you find yourself lucky enough to visit this ranch, do so with an open heart and allow yourself to be still and appreciate all that the ranch has to offer. My family pushed boundaries, overcame fears (thank you Winston!!), stayed up late talking (REALLY talking), shared a table for three meals a day with total strangers who, at the end of the weekend, we considered friends."

"We, my wife and I, and our two children 5 1/2 and 2 1/2 stayed from 11-22 through 11-26 of 2011 including Thanksgiving. I was not sure exactly what we were in for but were very pleasantly surprised. If you are looking to sit on top of some horse and have it walk you around a trail with a bunch of others, you are looking at the wrong place. If you want to be treated like friend and family, and actually how to care for, and ride a horse, this is definitely the place. The owner, Miss Leigh McCourt and her wonderful family of two daughters and various pets, made us feel welcome from pulling in the driveway.

The lodging is bunkhouse style, which was odd for my wife and I but the kids loved it. We had our own bunkroom with a huge attached bathroom with shower, jacuzzi tub, two vanities, and two walk in closets, a mini fridge, coffee maker (and coffee!) .

Each day we got up and the kids helped feed the various pets, chickens, puppies et al. and then had a great fresh cooked breakfast with eggs, bacon, sausage, and various pancakes or waffles or some sort of toast or biscuits all of which were wonderful.

After breakfast each day we were off to get the horses and learned how to brush them down, put on the blanket, saddle, bridle, then walked them down to the arena where the lessons began. We rode 4 different times only because we took a break on Thanksgiving where Miss Leigh put on a wonderful spread that was absolutely delicious. Then after dinner she had arranged for some entertainment as well that the whole family loved.

On friday night, our last night we went to a local rodeo and our 5 yr old boy got to "Mutton Bust" ride on a sheep and scored a 64. We were pretty proud of him! And Miss Leigh can sing too as she sung the National Anthem to start the show.

We would highly recommend Sugar and Spice Ranch for any mother daughter team that has any interest in horses at all and they will love it. On the last day they let you sign your bunk and we saw people that had returned 5 and 6 times. Incredible and if we are still in TX next summer we will come back."
